On May 8th, we celebrate the people who make up Red Cross – over 14 million staff and active volunteers around the world who connect with over 160 million people each year.
Every one of those people is a part of something bigger, a global movement to alleviate suffering and provide comfort and support when times are tough. Right now, 159 Red Cross and Red Crescent societies are responding to the COVID-19 pandemic. Whether it’s Aussie volunteers calling people in quarantine to check on their wellbeing, Italian volunteers driving sick people to hospital or international aid workers supporting efforts to contain the pandemic in the Cox’s Bazar refugee camp in Bangladesh, volunteers all across the world are making sure the most vulnerable in our communities are supported.
