Privacy Collection Notice

This notice explains how Australian Red Cross Society (‘Australian Red Cross’) receives your personal information and what we do with your information in our Migration Support Programs. Personal information is information about you that can identify you.

We collect your personal information so we can:

  • respond to your request for support,
  • check you are eligible to receive support or services,
  • provide services or financial support to you to help meet your needs,
  • ask other organisations to support you or to work with them to support you,
  • contact you or your emergency contact in an emergency,
  • report about our work (but this will not identify you, unless we give you notice about this),
  • contact you in the future to offer you other support services or for research, evaluation or service improvement purposes.

If we do not collect your personal information, we might not be able to provide services to you.

We ask you to give us your personal information.  Sometimes other people and organisations may give us your personal information, including organisations that are supporting you already, government departments and agencies, or your family and friends.  We only collect information about you if the information is necessary for us to provide services to you.

We collect personal information that can identify you, such as your name, date of birth, contact information, visa information, bank account statements, health information, personal situation or other information connected with your history or relationship to Australian Red Cross and the services we provide.

We may share your personal information with people and organisations that can support you or help us support you. Depending on which program is supporting you, we may share your information with organisations like health providers, accommodation and housing providers, educational providers, employment services, legal service providers, and government agencies. We may also share your information with our technology providers that provide our IT systems. We do not share your personal information with anyone overseas without your permission.

Sometimes we may need to share your personal information to keep you or other people safe. Australian Red Cross may need to share your personal information to:

  • Coordinate effective and efficient responses to a serious threat of harm to you or another person,
  • Enable early interventions to prevent the escalation of risk, or
  • Prevent abuse and harm that may increase the need for care and support.

Your personal information is protected by law, including the Privacy Act 1988 and Australian Privacy Principles. You have the right to:

  • ask for access to your personal information that we hold about you,
  • ask us to correct your personal information if it is incorrect,
  • make a privacy complaint.
