The race for all humans: Red Cross calling on Aussies this March

27 February 2024

Australian Red Cross is calling on you to be a champion for humanity this March.

At any time during the month, The Human Race asks participants to run, ride, relay, roll or even row for their fellow human.

Australian Red Cross Chief Funding Officer, Jason Laufer, said The Human Race, in its second year, is a campaign designed to give Australians the opportunity to show their support and do their bit for those less fortunate.

“Unlike most other fun runs or walks we’re not asking people to compete against each other or even squeeze all their activity into one day. Instead, this March, we’d encourage you to launch your own fitness challenge to raise critical funds to help people and communities cope with disaster, conflict, and isolation,” said Penny.

Open to people of all ages and abilities, donations will be used to support Australian Red Cross deliver its vital humanitarian services.

“So often in times of crisis or hardship people contact us to ask how they can help. The Human Race is a tangible way of contributing to the overall resilience and wellbeing of Australians via the Red Cross. In 2023, The Human Race generated crucial funds that enabled us to provide practical and emotional support to those impacted by crisis,” said Jason.

Over the course of March, Jason alongside thousands of fellow fundraisers will take part in The Human Race, with an aim to do 15k steps each day, or 465k steps in total by March 31. Participants are encouraged to share their Human Race experience on their social channels. Fundraising champions will go into the draw to win several major prizes, with winners to be announced on 11 May 2024.

“Last year we saw so many people motivated by The Human Race. In 2023, Ainsley Gareth pledged to conquer 100 kms of running in 31 days. Inspired by the overwhelming support he received from friends and family, Ainsley ended up doubling his goal clocking a massive 200 kilometres all in the name of humanity.

“With your support, Red Cross can go wherever the needs are greatest. Together, we have the chance to make a difference. Together, we can let people who are struggling know they are not alone. No matter the crisis. No matter how hard the challenges,” said Jason.

Contribute your km’s to The Human Race.
