Red Cross responds to Perth Hills bushfire emergency

3 February 2021 - Australian Red Cross is continuing to assist people affected by the ongoing bushfire emergency in Perth’s east.

As of 1200 AWST more than 500 people have registered via the Register.Find.Reunite. service, while dozens of highly dedicated employees and volunteers have been helping those affected by the bushfire.

“Our emergency teams are experts in their field - employees and volunteers alike,” said Red Cross WA Director, Craig Stewart.

“Our staff and volunteers are providing psychological first aid, personal support and information.”

“We are working together with local authorities, agencies and communities to provide initial support.”

The Register.Find.Reunite. service matches registrations from people affected by an emergency to enquiries made by their loved ones searching for news. Where a match is made, the person who made the enquiry will be notified.

Red Cross teams are supporting operations at evacuation centres at:

Brown Park Recreation Complex – Amherst Road near Salisbury Road, Swan View

Swan Active Midland – 16 Gray Drive, Midvale

Swan Active Beechboro – 290 Benara Road, Beechboro

Red Cross is also accepting donations to help fund emergency response and recovery work in Western Australia. Donations will support the work of trained emergency services in WA, including our volunteers and staff on the ground in the Perth Hills.

At this time, Red Cross is not providing direct financial assistance for people affected by the Perth Hills bushfire. People in this situation may be able to access other support. The Perth Lord Mayors Disaster Relief Fund has been launched and is collecting funds to directly assist bushfire-affected people.

Monetary donations can be made to the Disaster Response and Recovery Fund by visiting redcross.org.au/disaster

From 3 February, all donations made to the DRRF will specifically support our work in Western Australia, including our teams on the ground in the immediate response phase of the bushfire. Should the funds raised exceed the cost of our emergency services in Western Australia, the excess will be used to support our emergency work across Australia.
