First Aid for someone with a tick bite

If ticks are removed promptly, most bites cause temporary swelling and redness at the bite site.
If the person is showing signs of Anaphylaxis follow the Basic Life Support action plan (DRSABCD) and refer to their allergy plan if they have one.
1. For small ticks use permethrin cream (available at pharmacies).
2. For adult ticks, freeze with ether containing spray (also available at pharmacies).
3. Apply a cold compress to help reduce pain and swelling.
4. If the tick is in a sensitive area (such as near the eye) seek urgent medical attention to have it removed.
