Red Cross | ALDI Partnership to fight food insecurity around Australia

ALDI has generously committed significant funding to help us extend our vital FoodREDi program in local communities. When Chelsea turned to Red Cross for help, she was almost at breaking point. She didn't realise the impact a series of workshops on cooking, budgeting and nutrition could have on her four sons, and now her family is thriving.

"My self-esteem has just skyrocketed, and that flows into my attitude to the kids," she told us.

With one in ten Australians saying they can't afford to buy enough food, Red Cross knows that ending food security requires more than a short term fix.

We are delighted therefore, to announce a new partnership that will help us reach more families like Chelsea's with our life-changing food education workshops.

Superstore ALDI has generously committed significant funding over a minimum of two years to help us extend this vital 'FoodREDi' program. Their funding will allow us to train more program facilitators, building a workforce to help more people who have ongoing difficulty accessing sufficient, affordable and healthy food.

"Our partnership aims to educate and provide individuals with the skills they need to prepare and budget for healthy meals for themselves and their families," says ALDI Australia CEO, Tom Daunt.

"We look forward to a successful partnership and educating Australian families about making healthy food choices."

We celebrated with ALDI as they open their first stores in South Australia yesterday.

The team at ALDI took the opportunity to encourage even more support for Red Cross, by donating sausages for a BBQ, as well as fruit and drinks to help our members fundraise and connect with ALDI shoppers at the Seaford and Parafield Gardens stores.

Barb Moritz, a Red Cross member of 35 years, was one of the volunteers.

"I can't believe the amount of people here," she said of the line of people winding its way out the door of the Parafield Gardens store into the street.

"I think it's great that ALDI has partnered with Red Cross, it's really going to make a difference."

Red Cross thanks ALDI very much for its generous support of our work.
