Responding to the Beirut Explosion

6 August 2020 Our colleagues at Lebanese Red Cross are on the ground responding to an enormous explosion that destroyed the port of Beirut, the capital of Lebanon on August 4.

At least 135 people have died and thousands more have been seriously injured. We know those numbers will rise in the days to come.

The eastern part of Beirut has been totally destroyed, hospitals have been badly damaged and are overwhelmed with the number of people needing help. 300,000 people have lost their homes and there are reports of people still trapped beneath the rubble.

Lebanese Red Cross are doing everything they can to help. Conducting search and rescues, helping people evacuate, providing urgent medical care, psychological support, treating and transporting the injured, and are providing temporary shelter, food and basic essentials for those impacted.

Our hearts and thoughts are with all those affected in Beirut, their loved ones, and those doing their best to help.

The Red Cross Red Crescent Movement has offered its support.
