Australian Red Cross is leading a national call to action this September with EmergencyRedi Week 2025 (15-21 September) dedicated to encouraging all people living in Australia to prepare for emergencies and disasters before they strike. Activities and events will take place throughout September and beyond, sparking conversations and practical steps communities and individuals can take to stay safe.
With natural hazards and extreme weather events becoming more frequent and severe, taking the time to make preparedness part of everyday life has never been more important.
Held annually each September, EmergencyRedi Week raises awareness about the crucial steps to get prepared and provides the practical tools you need to take action.
Take one step at a time:
Throughout the month, Australian Red Cross and our partners will be hosting community events, Pillowcase and EmergencyRedi workshops, and sharing preparedness resources across Australia.
Research and frontline experience show that being practically and psychologically prepared helps protect people, pets, and property when disaster hits and enables faster recovery. Taking small steps now makes a lasting impact, whether you live in a disaster-prone region or not.
Let’s look out for each other and help build stronger, safer, and more resilient communities.
Australian Red Cross National Resilience Director, Nichola Krey, said that there’s no room for complacency when it comes to getting prepared.
“If Cyclone Alfred has taught us anything, it’s that extreme weather events can happen anywhere in Australia. For many of the hardest-hit communities, this was the first time they had experienced an extreme weather event, and they were caught unawares.
“Emergencies can strike at anytime, anywhere, and without warning. With climate and environmental events becoming more intense we’re encouraging everyone living in Australia to be proactive about getting prepared and building resilience now.”
Emergencies can strike at anytime, anywhere and without warning. The good news is, it's easy to protect yourself, the people you love and the things you value most.
