Red Cross activates Register.Find.Reunite., evacuation centres in response to Wooloroo bushfire

2 February 2021 - Australian Red Cross has opened Register.Find.Reunite. and is urging people affected by the bushfire east of Perth to get in touch with their family and friends.

Red Cross teams are also supporting operations at evacuation centres at:

• Brown Park Recreation Complex – Amherst Road near Salisbury Road,Swan View

• Swan Active Midland – 16 Gray Drive, Midvale

• Swan Active Beechboro – 290 Benara Road, Beechboro

The Register.Find.Reunite. service matches registrations from people affected by an emergency to enquiries made by their loved ones searching for news.

Where a match is made, the person who made the enquiry will be notified.

“Being separated from family and friends is one of the most stressful things a person can experience during an emergency,” said Red Cross WA Director, Craig Stewart.

“Not knowing where your loved ones are, not being able to contact them by phone or email adds to that anxiety. This service helps find and reunite family, friends and loved ones during a disaster. If you, a friend or family member has been affected by the bushfire, Red Cross encourages you to register or enquire through the Register.Find.Reunite. service,” he said.

People can register and look for someone with Register.Find.Reunite. at redcross.org.au.

If internet or phone services are down, people can also register and enquire in person at an evacuation or relief centre.

“It is important for emergency management agencies to know where people are during emergencies. By registering with Register.Find.Reunite. you are also letting important services know that you are OK and what support you may need,” said Mr Stewart.

Red Cross has a range of resources to help people affected by emergencies –including how to prepare for, respond to, and recover from, a bushfire.
