Why protect health care?

A basic rule of war is that doctors and nurses, ambulances and hospitals are protected from attack. Whether civilian or military, they must be left free to treat anyone who needs care.

When this rule is not respected, people die needlessly. Entire communities are cut off from vital services such as maternity care, child care and vaccinations.
