About fundraising for Red Cross

There’s so much you can do to raise money in support of our life-changing work. Here are some ideas to inspire you.

It’s easy to register here. You’ll receive a personalised online page that your supporters can use to make donations, and an authority to fundraise on our behalf.

You cannot use the Red Cross emblem in any of your advertising. It’s an internationally protected emblem, used in times of conflict and it is a criminal offence under the Geneva Conventions Act to misuse it.

You’re allowed to use the Red Cross name; however, it must be clear in your advertising that the activity is supporting Red Cross and not run by Red Cross. For example, you may state your activity or event is "proudly supporting Australian Red Cross", or "proceeds donated to Red Cross" but you cannot name your event "Red Cross Art Exhibition" or "Australian Red Cross Walkathon".

See our fundraising terms and conditions for more information.

Red Cross cannot supply you with a budget to run the event. You may deduct reasonable expenses for hosting your event. Red Cross recommends that your cost of fundraising is less than 30% of the funds raised. The activity organiser must keep records of income and expenditure, and may deduct any essential costs of organising the activity. These must be documented with receipts, and must be fair and reasonable. You may deduct costs such as catering, venue hire, and entertainment but cannot deduct taxi transport etc. unless under special circumstances. Please see our fundraising terms and conditions for more information.

Australian Red Cross’ Public Liability Insurance covers Red Cross staff, members and registered volunteers for third party injuries or property damage for which they may be liable.

If you are holding an event at a public venue e.g. community centre or Rotary Club, please contact the local council or the venue management, to ensure they have Public Liability Insurance that is valid on the day of your event. It is also recommended that you review the location for any safety issues before the event.

Please see our fundraising terms and conditions for more information.
