Australian Bushfires report

The road to recovery.

Jack helped his dad Swampy to apply for Red Cross grants shortly after their home in Cobargo (NSW) burnt down. Swampy and the family are living on their land while they rebuild slowly.

January – September 2020

Nine months into our bushfire recovery program, we continue to be awed by the tenacity and strength of those who endured the fires.

Each person’s recovery looks different and progresses differently. Many people came forward in the last three months, who were not ready to seek help before. We’ve also seen bushfire-affected communities connecting with each other, supporting each other through the devastation of the fires and the isolation of the COVID-19 pandemic.

As at 27 November 2020, we have spent or disbursed $182 million.

This update provides insight into the grants and recovery program, as well as feedback from people who have received a grant.
