The Immigration Detention Monitoring Program monitors the conditions of immigration detention and how people are treated in immigration detention in Australia.

We work on the basis that everyone should be treated with dignity and respect and have their health and wellbeing protected. We offer our services to all people in detention, regardless of where they came from, how they arrived in Australia, or why they are in detention.
Teams of Red Cross Humanitarian Observers try to visit all immigration detention facilities in Australia regularly. Our teams look at facilities, speak with people in detention, and meet with detention service providers. We will then confidentially discuss any concerns we might have with the Australian Government and service providers to try to prevent and reduce harm.
