Australian Red Cross is encouraging Western Australians who may be vulnerable to extreme heat to register for TeleRedi, as severe heat is forecasted to impact much of the state this week.
TeleRedi provides free wellbeing check‑in calls during heatwave conditions, delivered by Australian Red Cross volunteers, in partnership with the WA Department of Health. The service supports older people, those living alone, people with disability or chronic illness, individuals recovering from illness or injury, and carers.
Australian Red Cross Aged Care Manager, Kathleen Snowball, said the expansion of TeleRedi into Western Australia comes at a critical time:
“Heatwaves are Australia’s deadliest natural hazard, and a phone call can save lives. We’ve seen this firsthand with TeleRedi, which has already made a real difference in South Australia and is now rolling out in Western Australia – just ahead of Extreme Heat Awareness Day on 4 February 2026. This expansion is a critical step in helping more communities prepare to stay safe, informed, and connected during extreme heat events.”
During welfare checks, volunteers ensure participants are safe, provide practical reminders, and activate escalation procedures if a call goes unanswered or someone appears unwell.
