Celebrating Australian Red Cross Members and Volunteers this National Volunteer Week

This National Volunteer Week (19-25 May) we’re celebrating more than 17,000 Australian Red Cross members and volunteers across the country, who generously dedicate their time to supporting people in need.

With humanitarian efforts and programs across every State and Territory, our members and volunteers are the heart of Australian Red Cross’ mission – to bring people and communities together in times of need.

Over the past year, Australian Red Cross members and volunteers have:

• Played a vital role in 27 emergencies across the country
• Our daily telephone check-in service, Telecross, operated 365 days a year and provided connection to 3,333 people
• Delivered more than 36,000 Age Care transport trips, helping older Australians stay connected and supported
• Hand-knitted approximately 45,000 Trauma Teddies to comfort people experiencing challenging times.

Australian Red Cross Deputy CEO Penny Harrison extends her deepest thanks to the members and volunteers who dedicate their time to Australian Red Cross.

“Whether you’re responding to emergencies, standing with people and communities together in times of need, lending a hand in our Red Cross shops, or a listening ear in trying times - you make a genuine difference in the lives of people who need it most. Together you are mobilising the power of humanity,” said Ms Harrison.

This National Volunteer Week, Australian Red Cross proudly joins Volunteering Australia in celebrating the power of volunteering with the theme ‘Connecting Communities.’
