Resources to look after yourself and children after traumatic events

14 April 2024

Australian Red Cross is reminding community members that in challenging times, such as the recent incident at Bondi Junction Westfield, a wide range of resources designed to help people navigate crisis are available on redcross.org.au.

Australian Red Cross NSW State Director, Kate Miranda said seeking help soon after experiencing or witnessing a traumatic event can significantly improve one's recovery in the short, medium, and long term.

"The resources available on redcross.org.au can help people cope with traumatic events and provide valuable tips on looking after both themselves and others, including children.

Ms Miranda also reminded community members of the importance of understanding that in today's digital age, witnessing violent scenes through the media and social media platforms can be just as distressing as being present on the ground particularly for children.

“Parents and caregivers play a pivotal role in helping children process such distressing information and there’s a range of specialised guidance tools available on our website,” she said.
