Important COVID-19 update

The health and wellbeing of the community, Red Cross staff, trainers and students is the key priority for Australian Red Cross. We are strictly adhering to Victorian Government COVID-19 guidelines and, as such, we have been required to make changes to our training schedule in some areas of Victoria.

The Victorian Government announced further restrictions from 11.59pm on Wednesday 8 July.  Different restrictions have been applied to certain areas in Victoria. To confirm if you live in a listed restricted area, please refer to the Victoria Health and Human Services website.

Due to these new restrictions, many courses have been cancelled or postponed, we ask anyone with a cancelled course, who is residing in these areas, to book their classroom training after 19 August 2020. Please note: we will be continuing to run limited courses where venues are remaining open for study or training purposes, we ask that you check our website should you wish to transfer or re-book into one of these courses, spaces are subject to availability.

Anyone residing in one of these postcodes with an existing booking that has been cancelled between 1 July – 19 August 2020, can simply re-book at no cost by calling 1800 733 276 or emailing learn@redcross.org.au

There are a number of online first aid and mental health courses available. Check out the online courses.

If you have any questions please contact Red Cross so that we can assist you with your training needs.

First Aid and Mental Health classroom training is available for bookings. Enhanced infection control and hygiene measures are in place and physical distancing measures are strictly followed. All our trainers have received COVID-19 training.

Changes to CPR and classroom exercises
To reduce contact, students will not be required to demonstrate first aid techniques on others. CPR training and assessment have been changed to avoid direct contact with performing the 2 breaths on the manikins.

If you have flu-like symptoms
Please do not attend classroom training if you are sick or experiencing any flu-like symptoms. Red Cross will waive transfer fees for any student who needs to reschedule on the basis of health during the COVID-19 pandemic.

If you are waiting for results of a COVID-19 test
Please do not attend classroom training until you have your results and they are negative. Red Cross will waive transfer fees for any student who needs to reschedule on this basis.

Red Cross has a number of online courses available in both first aid and mental health, and these will continue to be offered. New short online courses are due to be launched shortly, including a Psychological First Aid course. Find out more online, via email, or by calling 1800 733 276.

First aid saves lives and training is all about keeping people safe. That’s why we take hygiene seriously at our first aid training courses. We always ensure training participants adhere to stringent hygiene practices, particularly handwashing and use of sanitisers on first aid equipment.

Australian Red Cross First Aid & Mental Health will continue to follow strict hygeine protocols. During this time, our first aid and mental health trainers are ensuring strict preventative health measures before and during each class to keep all participants safe. Our full infection control guidelines can be found here.

Participants are asked to follow the COVID-19 guidelines set by government and self-isolate if they have had direct contact with a confirmed case of COVID-19 or have traveled from overseas in the last 14 days. This advice is constantly changing and we ask people to please keep themselves updated on the changes through the Department of Health or calling 1800 020 080.

If people are sick, even with a cold or a mild illness, we ask that they do not attend the course until they are well. We are happy to rebook sessions, at no charge, to a more appropriate time. To rebook simply call 1800 733 276 or send us an email.
