Legitimate Red Cross fundraisers always wear a red t-shirt or a red spray jacket with the Red Cross logo.
They will have a badge with their name, photo and ID number, and carry up-to-date Red Cross brochures, etc.
They tend to go door knocking or stand at stalls branded with the Red Cross logo in prominent locations and only ask for regular donations to be paid through a bank direct debit or a credit card - not cash.
The only exception is in March when we hold our annual fundraising campaign, Red Cross Calling. During March registered collectors can accept one-off cash donations and issue receipts. Red Cross members will also at times throughout the year collect cash donations at shopping centres, events etc. and often wear a Red Cross name badge and have Red Cross branded materials.
If you are concerned about the legitimacy of a fundraiser, contact the Customer Care team. Email contactus@redcross.org.au or phone 1800 RED CROSS.
