Accommodation while receiving medical care

If you're in Queensland and need to travel for medical care, Red Cross can help with affordable, comfortable accommodation.

If you’re from regional or remote Queensland and need to travel to a big coastal hospital for medical care, Red Cross runs these affordable, comfortable accommodation centres right next to three hospitals. They’re for patients and their families while they receive treatment.

Townsville Wellbeing Centre

This 20-room accommodation centre allows you to rest and recuperate while you are in Townsville for medical treatment. This home-away-from-home has 42 beds and is just a very short walk to the Townsville General Hospital in Douglas. Most of the rooms have ensuite bathrooms, and four rooms share an ensuite bathroom.

The centre has a spacious outdoor area with a community garden and barbeques, an indoor recreation area, a communal kitchen and a communal TV room. A range of wellbeing activities and services is also provided here.

The centre is supported by out-of-hours Red Cross support volunteers who live onsite.
