Meeting the challenge

We’re adapting to face unprecedented change, guided by our fundamental principles.

Australian Red Cross, like other organisations and charities, is facing unprecedented change and more intertwined challenges including international conflicts, COVID-19, climate change and more intense and frequent disasters.

Being able to meet these unpredictable future challenges requires change. Australian Red Cross can keep making a genuine difference in people’s lives today and for the long term by looking at how and where we can better deliver specific programs and services.

Change brings opportunity.

Increasing our focus on our core areas of expertise in emergency services, international programs, international humanitarian law, aligned community programs, and migration support services means we can deliver maximum impact.

Some things will never change.

Our fundamental principles of humanity, impartiality, neutrality, independence, voluntary service, unity, and universality will continue to guide our humanitarian work, making sure the needs of all people are considered, protected, and addressed equally, regardless of circumstances. First Nations knowledge and leadership will be at the centre of how we approach our work.

Australian Red Cross remains committed to bringing people and communities together in times of need to reduce human suffering, just as we’ve done for more than 100 years.
