Providing lifesaving care in the hardest places
Right now, conditions in Gaza remain catastrophic. 1.9 million people have been displaced — many forced to flee more than ten times. Children are going hungry, with nearly 13,000 admitted to hospital for acute malnutrition in just one month.
Australian Red Cross emergency nurse Tracy has just returned from Gaza, where she worked at the International Committee of the Red Cross Field Hospital, the only functioning hospital left in Rafah. What she describes is devastating. “People are exhausted. They have no more tears to give,” she says.
Despite severe shortages of medicines, food and basic sanitation, Red Cross teams continue delivering lifesaving care in the most challenging situations. Infectious diseases are rising rapidly, with around 10,000 new cases each week. Many people with chronic illnesses, like diabetes, can’t access the medication they need to survive.
People caught in this conflict urgently need emergency medical treatment, ongoing care, psychological support, food — and above all, safety. That is what the Red Cross movement works to provide, but we can’t do it without your support.
