Heatwaves and extreme heat cause more deaths in Australia than any other disaster. Here’s how you can prepare to keep yourself and your loved ones safe when the temperatures rise.

Get help
Take notice of your health, including your energy levels mood and ability to think and plan. If you notice negative changes take action to cool down and seek support from caregivers, crisis lines, and health providers.
If you or someone you know becomes unwell during an extreme heat event, call 000 immediately. High temperatures can cause heat-related illness or worsen other health conditions, which can be life-threatening.

If you are in South Australia or Western Australia and are:
- living alone
- housebound or frail
- living with a disability or chronic illness
- recovering from illness or injury
- experiencing mental illness
or are concerned about your wellbeing during extreme heat events, you may be eligible to register for TeleRedi – a free phone support service to help you stay safe and well during periods of extreme head
