Extreme heat

Looking after yourself

Extreme heat can be dangerous, take steps to keep yourself safe.

During a heatwave

  • Drink water regularly, even if you do not feel thirsty.
  • Avoid being outdoors during the hottest part of the day. Postpone sport, heavy work or strenuous activities.
  • Wear loose, light-coloured clothing.
  • Cool your body using a spray bottle, a wet towel, or by sitting near a fan.
  • If your home becomes too hot, seek air-conditioned spaces such as shopping centres, community facilities, libraries or swimming pools.
  • Check in with family, friends and neighbours, especially those who may be vulnerable.
