Queensland and New South Wales Floods Report

Two years after devastating storms and floods hit Queensland and New South Wales, the work of recovery continues.

This 12 month update highlights the life-changing impacts our donors have had on people affected by the 2022 floods. Two years on, your contribution is still powering the work to be done.

Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, in the past two years we have continued helping thousands of people who lost everything in the 2022 floods. From community workshops to one-on-one support, and preparedness training, we continue to walk alongside these communities on the road to recovery.

In late February 2022, South East Queensland and Northern New South Wales were hit by torrential storms. In the devastating floods that followed, tens of thousands of people were evacuated. The floods had tragic consequences; people lost their lives, and homes, businesses and livelihoods were severely damaged. These communities continue to face years of recovery.

Two years on, with the support of our generous donors, corporate partners, philanthropic donors and governments, Australian Red Cross remains on the ground working as part of, and alongside, communities.

Thanks to your generosity, we raised $55.6 million that has enabled: an extensive emergency response; a comprehensive cash assistance program; and a long-term recovery program that has already delivered support, workshops, training and education to thousands of people.

In 2023, we published the road to recovery report which details the first year of our response to these devastating floods and the incredible reach of our programs. It also describes our plans for longer-term recovery and resilience building in these flood-affected regions as we stand alongside people in need.

Now, as communities enter another year of recovery, we’re shining a light on their resilience and all the work that has been achieved.

Read about how communities are rebuilding.
