By SWL Founding Patron, Selena Spring
Current members of our Society of Women Leaders welcomed new members and guests as they gathered together in Sydney at The Establishment for yet another thought provoking Boardroom Series Lunch. Generously sponsored by NAB Private for which SWL would like to extend their sincere thanks and a special mention to Penny Stavliotis for hosting. We again heard about the Red Cross emblem, which all SWL members wear with pride. How it signifies to all those who encounter it "don't shoot", yet spoke of the sad events that led to the death of Lorena Perez only a few days earlier. Lorena was a Red Cross aid worker deployed to Afghanistan, who was shot by one of her own patients.
We welcomed back the truly inspiring Ruth Jebb an Australian Red Cross aid worker who shared her own experiences from her many deployments. Ruth spoke of those, many just children, whom she considered the true heroes, who had still managed to find hope in the face of unimaginable adversity. Ruth received the Florence Nightingale Medal earlier this year in honour of her exceptional courage and devotion to the victims of conflict or natural disaster.
SWL is so proud to support the Australian Red Cross and all that it stands for. We are a unique circle of giving which allows us to fund our own aid worker in the field, who like Lorena and Ruth leave the most indelible impact on those vulnerable and in need of the most basic of human needs.
We look forward to seeing you at our next catch up generously sponsored by Paspaley and hosted by Christopher Paspaley on 26 October in Sydney. Be sure to rsvp to reserve a place email@example.com
