Hayley Baillie, Founding Member, and Pip Smith, Founding Member, were our generous hosts for a Fireside chat in Sydney on a cold and wet winter’s evening. About a dozen members gathered to admire the magnificent view of Sydney from Pip’s apartment in Kirribilli, to reacquaint ourselves with old friends and to meet new ones. We were all delighted to witness the presentation of the SWL Tiffany bracelet to our newest member of less than 48 hours, Michel Schuhmacher, and to hear her story of how she came to learn about SWL. She is evidence that our page on the Red Cross webpage does get some hits!
Our amazing guest speaker was Judy Harper, Central Region Regional Manager for Australian Red Cross, who spoke to us about the work Australian Red Cross is doing to help offenders, families and youth who are involved in the justice system. Australian Red Cross provides support and mentoring services to inmates and those on remand, including juveniles, to try and break the cycle of violence and incarceration. We are hoping that Judy and her team pitch a proposal to SWL at our Annual Members Meeting in November when members may have the chance to vote to support this wonderful initiative.
Kerry-Anne Johnston, Events Chair NSW, rounded out the evening with a brief presentation on the recent Tiffany Circle global conference held in Geneva from 17 to 19 June. SWL sent 9 delegates and found the experience of mixing with members from Tiffany Circle chapters in the US, Canada, Netherlands and the UK to be of great value and benefit.
Thank you to Kerry-Anne and Row McGilvray for the effort they put in to making this evening happen and most especially to Pip for allowing us to use her home, even when she couldn’t be there herself.
