It is commonly known that Wednesdays are the Hump Day of any given week, but Wednesday 1st May turned out to be ‘Happy Day’ as the Society of Women Leaders NSW Chapter converged on Prada’s Flagship Store on Castlereagh Street in Sydney’s CBD.
Some fifty very glamorous SWL Members and guests had the honour of being hosted by Prada in a very special evening that included being waited on hand and foot by Prada’s warm and attentive staff, serving champagne and canapes and providing a personalised shopping experience like no other.
It was a privilege to have exclusive access to this luxurious store for a few hours and to hear directly from Prada’s PR & Advertising Manager, Mr Shay Thomas. Shay spoke openly about the charitable beliefs and commitments of the Prada Group and in particular, that of Mrs Prada. It was heart-warming to learn that this luxury global brand was not just committed to be a leader within their industry but a leader in supporting Humanitarian causes.
Our guest speaker for the evening was the highly achieved and vastly experienced Red Cross Aid Worker, Kym Blechynden. Kym’s Bio read like a surreal movie script and was so sophisticated and extensive that upon hearing I felt insignificant and under achieved to say the least, until that was, Kym started speaking. Her warmth and candour quickly captured every woman in the room as she relayed her experiences working on the front line of the Red Cross in many different parts of the world. She spoke extensively about the work of the Red Cross, and in depth about her experiences and work with Cox’s Bazaar. She was insightful and delightful and a beautiful communicator.
Kym graciously thanked every member in the room and reminded us all that while we can’t all do what she does, she can’t do what she does either, without what we do. Her gratitude was heart-warming. It was a deeply powerful reminder of the importance of our role.
The formal aspects of the evening ended with Shay very generously announcing that 10% of all sales on the evening would be donated by Prada to the Red Cross. It was the Green Light we’d all be waiting for and the rest was history.
Our sincerest thank you to the generosity of the Prada Group and Rochelle Collis, of SWL, who coordinated with Prada to make this very special evening possible.
