Boardroom Series Lunch, Brisbane 9 August 2018

On a beautiful sunny winter’s day in Queensland, Danni Murray (SWL Founding Member and Partnership Adviser) and Anita Pahor (SWL Chair and Founding Member) anxiously arrived at the stunning offices of NAB Private in Brisbane. Their nerves stemmed from the uncertainty of how the second SWL event in this new market would be received.

A full capacity audience poured in exactly on time (got to love a prompt arrival!) and within 5 minutes of mingling with the guests, Danni and Anita threw each other a knowing smile and simultaneously gave a sigh of relief. Anxiety turned to joyful anticipation. This event was going to be great.

Our hunch that like-minded philanthropic women exist in Queensland has been well and truly confirmed.

Guest speaker, Susan Jankovic (Acting Executive Director for Red Cross in Queensland) gave us an inspiring and generous presentation. As always, it’s not easy to put into words the feeling in the room as she opened our eyes to the humanitarian impact our world faces as a result of conflict, war, disasters and poverty. We learned about the enormous international reach of the Red Cross in 190 countries and then drilled down to social issues facing Brisbane and other parts of Queensland right now.

Our host and generous sponsor, Rob Engles from NAB Private, had a difficult time holding back tears as he thanked Sue and her team for their dedication to alleviating suffering and pursuit of fairer conditions for the most vulnerable people in our communities and around the world. Members of SWL at the lunch felt deep satisfaction and pride that their collective philanthropy was being put to such effective use. We are so proud to back women like Sue with our pooled funding. Sue, if you’re reading this, don’t stop doing what you do - the world needs more people like you!

Two new members of our circle of giving were awarded their bracelets bearing the red cross emblem. Many attendees asked if they could have the privilege of hosting a future SWL event in their home or business.

We are blown away with the welcome SWL is receiving in Queensland and we thank our 5 members and NAB Private in this market for choosing Society of Women Leaders to be part of their philanthropy portfolios.

Danni and Anita are busily putting together the details for the incredible event schedule for Queensland for 2019. If you have friends or business contacts in the sunshine state who would love to be a part of SWL’s newest chapter, please speak to Danni or Anita.

With such a successful launch into Queensland, we wonder where SWL should head next?
