He lives in an area of Kenya hit hard by drought, yet he can produce enough food to feed his family and provide an income. John Paul’s farm benefits from a rainwater reservoir and pipe network set up with the help of aid organisations, including Red Cross.
From his three acres he harvests fruit and vegetables that would thrill even the best-supplied, first-world organic enthusiast: among them tomatoes, eggplant, passionfruit, sugar cane, banana and cassava.
In all likelihood, his farm will survive anything but the most exceptional drought. Photo: Alex Wynter/Kenya Red Cross Society-Climate Centre.
