Paraskevi - Greece

"When we were running from the fire, my grandson stopped and pointed at the house."

“’Look granny, your house is gone,’ he said. He was right, now I have no place to call home." Paraskevi lives in the Greek seaside resort of Rafina, 30km east of Athens. Her home was badly burnt and is now uninhabitable after wildfires swept through the area in July.

But the 67-year-old is alive. More than 90 people died in the wildfires, a large number of whom lived in Rafina. The town’s once green vegetation has been replaced with blackened tree trunks.

Hellenic Red Cross’ medical teams are patrolling Rafina and supporting residents, like Paraskevi, who might need help to cope with the trauma.
