Nurnobi - Bangladesh

“People like me, who have been living in this camp for a long time, feel settled. But it’s painful to see new families arriving and to hear the sad things they have been through.”

Nurnobi runs a clothing stall on the Bangladesh and Myanmar border. His family fled Rakhine state when he was one and some 26 years on he’s witnessing another influx of people seeking safety.

April and May here is one of two annual cyclone seasons. Volunteers, like Nurnobi, are teaching people how to protect their makeshift shelters, use sandbags, and recognise early warning signs. Red Cross teams provide much-needed support to camp residents, including cyclone preparedness.
