Lucinda - Indonesia

“It’s difficult in this place. Here (we need) clean water, houses, light, roads.”

Lucinda lives in a remote village and five or six times every day she walks, carrying jerry cans and a bucket, down to a winding path to get clean water for her family. Her whole village queues at the single pipe, where water flows at a constant trickle. Lucinda had to give up her midwifery studies in the city of Makassar to support her baby boy Dio.

“My hope is to work. So that my life is not what it is like right now. I just want to change … that is my prayer for the future.” Lucinda has become a Red Cross volunteer to support other women in her village and also get hands-on experience in health care.
