Louise - Queensland

Poppies, history and Red Cross are close to Louise’s heart. “I’m a history teacher and I’m particularly interested in World War One,” says our volunteer archivist.

“There’s so much we can learn from those times. Everybody gave something. In every street people were working to support soldiers or PoWs… It was pulling together and thinking about others a bit more.”

As we celebrate the 100th anniversary of the end of WWI tomorrow Louise’s words resonate even more: “I am absolutely passionate about Red Cross’ history. It has always been about helping humanity and trying to ease suffering. The effort it took to support Australians overseas was amazing – lots of sacrifices.”
