Kauy - Laos

“My father woke me and (we) went to my brother’s house … I was very sacred at the time.”

Kauy was asleep when a deadly flash flood, caused by a collapsed dam, came rushing towards this home. He and his father escaped in a boat. Like many others the 14-year-old and his family lost their home – he’s now living in a makeshift camp in a school.

But this young humanitarian is determined to make good out of a difficult situation and help others by volunteering for Lao Red Cross. His proud mother says: “He gives out many things from the Red Cross such as mosquito nets, blankets and drinking water. We have also received a tent, rice and cooking equipment.” Photo: IFRC/Matthew Carter.
