Karabo - Lesotho

After her dad died and her mum left to find work, Karabo became a surrogate parent for her two younger sisters.

"Sometimes I would ask myself, why would God choose to leave me lonely and to be a parent for my sisters.” It was hard and life was tough before Red Cross came to help, sorting out a roof for their home, food and support with school fees.

That schooling has inspired Karabo, who is now 18. “After doing my Form-E, I want to be a nurse because I want to help the lives of other people." AIDS-related deaths in Lesotho have had devastating impact on the children who are left behind.
