Jon - Mediterranean Sea

After three months working in Libya without pay, Jon wasn’t sure things could get worse. But they did.

Forced onto an overcrowded wooden boat, Jon and his fellow passengers had no idea what was in store for them on the other side of the Mediterranean. They prayed, shivered, and shouted for help.

Luckily they were rescued by the Responder, a vessel operated by Red Cross and MOAS, and given medical checks, food, water, and blankets. “They used us as slaves in Libya,” says Jon, who is from Sierra Leone.

He didn’t realize Europe was on the other side of that body of water. When asked what he thinks he’ll find there, he says “I hope we find humanitarians like the Red Cross in Italy.”
