Jack, his wife and children were asleep when the volcano on Ambae, their island home, erupted last year.
They escaped and when it was safe enough they headed to the beach. Vanuatu Red Cross helped people evacuate via boat to the eastern part of the island and later to a neighbouring island.
“Ambae is no longer safe. We will stay here so our children can be safe and won’t worry in future. At first it was quite hard but now we are all right … we are happy with the locals here,” says Jack. “I really want to say thank you to Red Cross, they helped a lot.”
