Carmen - South Australia

“One Friday afternoon I saw an Anangu man in a wheelchair with a busted tyre, outside the office,” says Carmen.

“Speaking Pitjantjatjara, with his friends translating, he asked for help to get another wheelchair, and somewhere to sleep for the weekend.”

Carmen, who works at our Ceduna Community Hub, called every agency and community service she know before findingsomeone who could lend the man a wheelchair and a bed for the weekend.

My job is about “being able to provide urgent support through our connections. And it all come about from that flat wheel.” For Carmen every day is different, from recruiting new volunteers, to coordinating our driver mentor program and so much more.
