Arnesta - South Sudan

“Some people really like the drama and they come up to us to tell us that they want to change their behaviour after watching the performance."

Every Friday Arnesta's volunteer troupe performs a street play about the importance of protecting hospitals and medical clinics during conflict. Attacks on healthcare workers, patients and medical facilities are a big challenge in South Sudan. Civilians and fighters often die from their injuries because of the lack of safe access to healthcare.

Arnesta and her fellow Red Cross volunteers perform the hour-long play in a different location each week to help get the message to as many people as possible. Photo: ICRC/Mari/Aftret Mortvedt
