Abdel - Greece

“I used to have a toy shop in Damascus. Making children smile as I help the doctors with vaccinations makes me happy while I'm here.”

Abdel, from Syria, has been in the Skaramagas refugee camp in Greece for three years and works as a community volunteer with Red Cross.

The camp is home to more than 3,000 refugees, mainly from Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan. Children make up half the population, which makes Abdel’s talents particularly popular - all year around. Photo: IFRC/ Socrates Baltagiannis.
