When the rains began in late February across eastern Australia, few could have predicted the devastation that was to befall Queensland and New South Wales. An estimated 50,000 homes have been damaged by floodwaters and more than a million people have been affected.
And as communities who have been affected by the floodwaters continue their recovery journey, Red Cross will be standing by them each step of the way.
Thanks to generous donations, we have received $19.6 million so far for this appeal. We are started reporting daily on our cash assistance program and will continue to update regularly on the other components of our operations.
“You couldn’t put a dollar value on the support that we got. It was offered and it was gratefully accepted. It took a load off our minds and relieved a lot of stress.”
