On hand in extreme heat and fire

Red Cross teams are on hand as much of the country swelters under extreme heat.

High temperatures are forecast for much of the country over the next few days. Check with the Bureau of Meteorology for your local forecast.

Across Victoria our teams are on standby in preparation for a major heat event expected on Saturday 6 January 2018. Volunteer teams in Sunraysia, Northern Lakes, Wimmera, Outer and Inner Barwon, Central and Inner Loddon Mallee and North divisions have been put on alert.

Temperatures in Victoria and south Australia are expected to be over 40 degrees on Saturday 6 January 2018, when there is also a total fire ban in place.

Heatwaves can be deadly. See our advice on beating the heat.

Meanwhile trained Red Cross Emergency Services volunteers are in Murray Bridge offering personal support after a huge abattoir fire in the town south east of Adelaide.

Red Cross was asked by the South Australian government to provide psychosocial support to people at a Community Information Centre in the town.
