Money reaches farming communities

$10.5m fund set up to help drought-affected farmers

Australia, thank you!

Through your generosity the Red Cross Help Aussie Farmers Appeal raised $10.5m in just one month.

Money raised during August is already making its way to farming communities as grants of up to $3,000.

There’s money for everyday essentials like groceries, bills, rates, car registration and medical and school fees.

I think the public have been very, very generous and very open-hearted, and we’re very thankful to them for that.

Sue Strayhorn, farmer

Farmers and farming communities are being encouraged to apply for the grants.

The process is simple and applications are processed within days by our partners on the ground, the Country Women’s Associations in NSW and QLD.

This is no ordinary drought and families have been doing it tough for a long time.

But farmers and their communities are resilient and with the right support and more favourable weather conditions, they will come through this.

Further help for farming families

Our support for Aussie farmers doesn’t end here. 100% of the $10.5 million raised will go to farming communities. And we'll continue to deliver programs as part of our Disaster Relief and Recovery work, including:

  • Let’s Talk program – helping farming communities in NSW stay connected and cope with stress
  • Outreach – delivered by Red Cross members, volunteers and staff on the ground
  • Wellbeing checks, psychological first aid and referrals - delivered at a local level by Red Cross
