Australian Red Cross has partnered with the Rural Financial Counselling Service in Gippsland to distribute financial assistance of up to $3,000 to families in farming communities in drought-affected areas in eastern Victoria.
Red Cross Emergency Services Manager, Kate Siebert, says with families in the east of the state experiencing drought conditions similar to those in New South Wales and Queensland, it was timely to also provide support in the Gippsland region.
“Today Red Cross partners with the Rural Financial Counselling Service in Gippsland, to distribute grants that will help alleviate financial pressures on farming families and communities, given the serious impacts a dry season has had across many parts of eastern Victoria.
“We are pleased that funding is going to support drought affected families in NSW, QLD and SA, and that farmers living in Victoria’s Gippsland region can do the same. Communities across Australia have generously donated to the Australian Red Cross Help Aussie Farmers Appeal. We encourage families in East Gippsland and Wellington areas to come forward for the financial support available to them.”
Kylie Holmes, Executive Officer of Rural Financial Counselling Service in Gippsland says, “We are keen to have these funds distributed to our farming families as soon as possible to ease some of the burden of living expenses.
“We are thankful to be able to offer this necessary support, generously donated by those who really care about our farmers and the crisis they are facing. We are looking forward to working with Red Cross who are unwavering in their support of our regional communities.”
Grants of up to $3,000 can ease some of the burdens of everyday living expenses like rates, school fees and groceries.
