On 22 January 2021, the United Nations Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons came into force, marking a historic turning point in global efforts to end the nuclear weapons era once and for all.

A world without nuclear weapons is vital for the future of humankind and the planet and the International Red Cross Red Crescent Movement has been calling for their prohibition and elimination for 75 years.
