First Aid in the Workplace Course

This workplace first aid training course provides the occupational first aider with advanced knowledge and skills to carry out emergency first aid for injuries and illnesses in the workplace.  It will also provide students with information on state and federal legislations as it applies to first aid in the workplace.

Please note it is a requirement of this course that practical demonstration of CPR must be performed on the adult manikin on the floor.

  • Bag valve mask (BVM)
  • Maintenance of resuscitation equipment
  • Workplace risk assessment & response plan
  • Maintenance of first aid equipment
  • Recording and reporting incidents
  • Abdominal injuries
  • Allergic reaction 
  • Anaphylaxis
  • Bleeding and wound care
  • Burns, including thermal, chemical, friction and electrical
  • Cardiac conditions
  • Choking and airway obstruction
  • Crush injuries
  • Diabetes
  • Drowning
  • Emergency childbirth
  • Envenomation
  • Extremes of heat and cold
  • Eye and ear injuries
  • Head, neck and spinal injuries
  • Levels of consciousness
  • Musculoskeletal injuries: fractures and dislocations, strains and sprains
  • Needle stick injuries
  • Poisoning and toxic substances
  • Respiratory distress, including asthma
  • Seizures/Convulsions

Prerequisites

There are no prerequisites for this occupational first aid training course.

Reaccreditation

The recommended industry standard to maintain current competency is for this course to be refreshed every 3 years, with the CPR component to be refreshed annually.

Assessment

Students will be assessed through the demonstration of practical skills, participation in role plays, analysis of case studies, assessment activities and a written quiz.

Outcome

On successful completion of this workplace first aid course, students will be issued with a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment.
