Program guidelines

An automatic external defibrillator (AED) is a device that analyses the heart rhythm of an unconscious person and delivers an electrical shock in an attempt to restore a normal rhythm. Don’t worry, an AED won't deliver a shock unless necessary. The AED can be delivered to a person by anyone, not only first aiders.

More than 30,000 Australians suffer from sudden cardiac arrest every year, of whom only 5% survive. Immediate access to a defibrillator can lead to a 70% survival rate if applied quickly. An AED should be applied to an unconscious person as soon as possible – for every minute the shock is delayed, there can be a 10% reduction in survival.

For details on the next round of applications you can check out full details on the NSW Office of Sport page.

These AED Special Package offers are also available to Clubs who do not want to apply for a grant. In this case, please contact Red Cross directly by email or call us on 1300 367 428.
