First aid for someone with a spider bite

General symptoms for spider bites include sharp pain at the bite site, profuse sweating, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.

  1. Bites from highly venomous spiders, like a Funnel-Web or Red-back, should be treated in the same way as a snake bite (hyperlink to snake bite page). Call 000.
  2. Bites from other spiders should be treated with a cold compress and immediate medical attention.

Tip: Don’t apply ice directly to unprotected skin. Wrap in a clean cloth, like a clean tea towel.
