If a baby is not moving and does not respond when you call them or tap their foot, they are unresponsive.
- Check their breathing by tilting their head back and looking and feeling for breaths. Find out what to do if they are not breathing. (hyperlink to baby who is unresponsive and not breathing)
- Hold the baby on their side with their head slightly tilted back, supported and lower than their bottom.
This position helps keep their airway open. It ensures their tongue falls forward and fluid drains out. This will help the baby to continue to breath.
- Call 000 as soon as possible.
- While waiting for the ambulance, talk to the baby and reassure them. Make sure their head remains tilted back.
