Safia and Carol’s live are richer for the connections they’ve made through Red Cross.
After fleeing war-torn Sudan with her five surviving children, Safia feels safe and free in Australia, but she found it hard to make friends and settle into her new home of Gatton, a small Queensland town.
With Red Cross, Safia met Carol and other local women who helped her and her family settle, find purpose and make new friends. Now, with these women she is learning to sew and use a computer, and has people to practice her English with.
“We have very nice communication with different cultures. Our English is going better. I like this group. It makes us happy,” Safia said.
